Weekend of Being Thankful for all I have

Lunch @ Stone Hill Winery

Scott & Krista Enjoying a Glass or two @ Stone Hill Winery (August 2009)

It’s Hard to believe, But this Weekend Marks the One Year Anniversary of Our Wedding.  We actually started the Celebration last weekend by treating ourselves to an evening comedy with Red Green (PBS Fame) at the Uptown Theatre in Kansas City.  Not sure exactly what the weekend holds in store for us, Hopefully a nice dinner out and Wedding cake later….mmmm, cake!  It’s been an interesting year, given our living arrangements ( I spend a lot of the week staying in Carrollton because of the long drive, expense, kids and work)  but somehow it has worked.  I so look forward to the Next Year together, got a feeling things are going to be evan better for the two of us.

Turtle Burgers….To Die for! (probably)

I am lucky to have such a wife as Krista who is always looking out for my health, and whats best for me.  Goodness knows I have a hard time doing it!  With That said, I know There is very little chance I will ever have the opportunity to try one of these….Unless she is really mad at me.  It takes three of my favorite foods and combines them into One Heart Stopping Sandwich!

Turtle Burgers:
Handmade ground beef patties, topped with sharp cheddar cheese, wrapped in a bacon weave,  add hotdogs as the heads, legs with slits for toes and tail.
Place on an oven rack, covered loosely with foil and baked for 20-30 minutes at 400 degrees.  A little crispy, not too crunchy…just how a turtle should be, no?

The Turtle Burger

Thanks to long time morning show listener Twyla for the emailing me this Never to be tried recipe.

Is it just me?

It is official….I have become a 47 year old wimp!  yesterday brought a forecast of temperatures in the upper 90’s….nearing the 100 degree mark with high humidity levels. I prepared myself all morning, Telling myself, it won’t be soo bad!  I’ve been around hot weather, and high humidity all my life, after all I’m from Indiana…where Humidity was invented.  But yesterday every time I walked outside…..Mother Nature smacked me up-side the head and said..You won’t last until you get the car door open….if you make it that far!  She was right.  I just could not get over how hot is was…down right miserable!  But as the day wore on, I began to notice I was the only one talking about how hot is was.  Everything I talked about, or did revolved around “the heat”.   Was I the only one effected by the heat?

This morning I could not wait to check the day time high for Monday.  94 degrees!  Wait a minute…..94 degrees?  That was it?  I spent almost every waking hour the day before complaining about 94 degrees?  I must admit that I was somewhat disappointed that it was “only” 94 degrees.  It dawned on me, I have become soft!  That’s right…..soft!  Looking back to last week, I was complaining about highs in the mid 80’s!   I have allowed myself to make sure I am surrounded by man made controlled climate for as many hours a day as possible!  One of the stereotypes of a radio announcer….sitting in an air conditioned studio, drinking coffee, listening to music and talking about nothing.  Total comfort!  Well, things are going to change…We all need to feel a little discomfort in our lives so we can know and  appreciate the really nice days we are given! I’m making a change starting with the thermastat on the wall.  Going to bump it up a couple of degrees and spend more time outdoors!!!!!

But not today……it’s supposed to be in the upper 90’s again!

Maybe tomorrow!?!

I never would have Dreamed…

Monday I received a phone call from my mother who is vacationing in Florida for the week.  She mentioned that they were kicking around the idea of parasailing.   Never would I have dreamed that she would go through with it.

How Cool is that! Mom U Rock!

Why put forth the effort?

I Have not ever felt the need to spend a lot of time discussing the the tragedy surrounding the current oil spill crisis in the gulf.  No need too….It’s terrible what has happened, we all know that.  Now all I want is for the Oil Company to do something!  That something being, fix it..clean it up..leave it nicer than you found it, no matter the cost.  I must keep telling myself that is exactly what the corporate people are trying to do, the best they can.  It’s called faith.

Then this side by side picture comparison is revealed

The top is a picture that is said to have appeared on the company website showing all the different camera angles being viewed at the command center.  Pretty Impressive…..I Guess!?!

It has been discovered that the top photo was actually enhanced from the bottom picture to make it seem like there is so much more to “watch” than there really is.  See the difference?  Why spend the time time on doctoring a pic to include three more camera shots, that don’t exist to make us feel re-assured you are doing all you can to monitor the situation.  I think it would be more interesting to have the family guy on the top blank screen, ABC News on the bottom left and the Andy Griffith Show on the other.  At least I would know that the employees of this company also need a break from the tedious work they are responsible for!

Missouri’s Moon Rocks

So I can’t help but keep thinking about the missing moon rocks!  You  know, the ones President Nixon gave the State of Missouri…Way Back When!?!   All I can think about is how as a young boy, I waited in line for hours for the opportunity to walk past a couple of rocks that were encased in clear plexiglass cases to avoid any human contamination.  What a thrill to see these rocks up close after all the hours of watching the coverage of the moon landings on TV.  A Part of the Moon now was right there in front of me!  Many years have come and gone.  Now I hear that the rocks that were given to the state of missouri are possibly missing?  Oh How the times have changed!  I keep picturing in my mind, a guy down in some state building going through old dust covered boxes and stumbling across what appears to be an ordinary rock…..wondering what is this doing in here?  The guy puts the rock in his pocket and forgets about it.  Later, when it is time for a smoke break, he heads out a side door, reaches into his pocket and grabs the forgotten rock.  Looks at it and tosses it into the parking lot.  What was  back in my day a “marvel to behold” is now just a rock tossed away.  I am sure this is not the way the rock has turned up missing, but the loss of the feeling of being an astronaut one day myself and gathering my own rocks from the surface of the moon is now gone……..just like that!
